Workstation Mini-PCs with NVIDIA Quadro: ZOTAC at CES 2018

All these are professional-level graphics options, which ZOTAC has used from the MXM module form-factor. All 3 machines use a different chassis, based on functionality, expandability and power draw. The ZOTAC ZBOX P1000 workstation is the smallest one, whereas the ZBOX P5000 is the greatest and the strongest one.

All 3 ZOTAC workstations share the same theory: they are fully-integrated SFF PCs that encourage all modern connectivity technologies, such as Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, USB 3.0 Type-A, USB 3.0 Type-C, SD/microSD, DisplayPort 1.2, HDMI 2.0 and many others. The objective is that these systems could be quickly deployed without significant customisation. Each of the systems support up to 32 GB of all DDR4-2400 memory (two SO-DIMMs), feature a single M.2-2280 PCIe/SATA slot for SSDs, and one 2.5" bay for another storage device.

The demo of ZBOX with NVIDIA Quadro workstation in CES demonstrates that ZOTAC is considering supplying professional-grade systems. The PCs revealed at CES 2018 were based on Intel's quad-core Core i5-7500T processor, which comes across as a rather unorthodox choice for a workstation, but is a clear one given the fact that ZOTAC specializes on gaming and SFF PCs and just has the said chips (and supporting PCH) in stock. If a need for ZOTAC-made workstations is large enough, the company may develop Xeon-based machines at some point in the future. It's noteworthy, however, that a 2018 workstation doesn't encourage Thunderbolt 3. Workstation workloads need storage space, and ZOTAC's workstations can barely offer you a lot of it (an M.2 SSD plus a 2.5"/7-mm HDD will give 4 TB incomplete ).

Professional MXM solutions are manufactured and sold only by NVIDIA itself, so the module isn't a custom-made card by ZOTAC. The Quadro P1000 product isn't listed among other specialist GPUs for notebooks which NVIDIA offers.

ZOTAC plans to start promoting its workstations at Q2 2018. Prices will depend on several factors, including buy volumes.
